Maps

There is a decision to make regarding maps. There are some that are huge, and take long to load and cause the page to scroll horizontally. As I see it, there are three paths to be taken:

  1. Leave maps as they are, scrolling the page but being readable.
  2. Downsize large maps to 600px or so, making a few illegible but keeping the page layout, and making the user click two links to get to the large map.
  3. Linking directly to the large map, but not displaying it on the page.
  4. Having a thumbnail to the right of the page and a caption on it that leads directly to the large version.

  • I vote for 1, I believe this will look best and also have the most functionality for small maps. --Poromenos 17:46, 11 September 2005 (CDT)
  • #1, unless the map is unbelievably huge like above 2Mb, then #2 --Mezzanine 10:06, 12 September 2005 (CDT)
  • I prefer #1 too. Generally when you've navigated to an area page, a fully readable map is the reason. --Tokai 12:08, 13 September 2005 (CDT)
    • Both good points, I will change the maps and the template. Poromenos 06:28, 13 September 2005 (CDT)

This issue has been resolved. Maps will remain as they are, without downsizing.
