Description

A gaunt humanoid in a black robe gazes thoughtfully into a large gold

face. His black eyes sink back deep into his skull. A brooding pensive
manner dominates his demeanor. Ravens circle him, occasionally alighting
on his forearm.

Notes

Room echo(s):

A raven on the windowsill cocks his head and peers at you with penetrating eyes.
A large raven flies from his perch and lands on the back of Ravenhill's chair.

If you idle too long in his room (sends you 1s):

Ravenhill looks up at you with an agitated look on his face.
He quickly ushers you out of the room.
Ravenhill ushers out his visitor.

Known responses:

  • You say 'Lord Seth'
Ravenhill glances up from his concentration.
Ravenhill says 'The legend of the Dread Lord spreads ever further.
It seems the power he gained in the past was in exchange for a
pledge of fealty to the entity that caused the Shattering.
Ravenhill sits down and thinks deeply.
Ravenhill says 'I have a theory.'
Ravenhill strokes his chin.
Ravenhill says 'As the energies of Eskhatos whisked over the
land, I desperately searched for any means to counter the magicks.
As I enacted a ritual of detection, I could feel the entity calling
out. I believe, it needed the power it had given the Dread Lord to
break the barrier into this world. But Seth has never been one to bend
knee to anyone. It seems the Dread Lord managed to steal this fragment
of power and wield it. While his treachery served our ends by stopping
the entity, I am unsure what the Dread Lord now plans. Those I have
spoken to says he now personally wields this power in addition to his
own. I am both curious and terrified to see his next move.
Ravenhill returns to his concentration.
  • You say 'black monk'
Ravenhill chuckles politely.
Ravenhill says 'Ah, Louis le Fif, the Black Monk. Well, my friend,
I am a scholar, not a translator of lunacy. Whether he was moon-mad
or complicit in the events that lead to the Shattering, I do not know.
His prescience was impressive, to say the least.'
Ravenhill sits down and thinks deeply.
You hear Ravenhill hrm.
Ravenhill says 'Since the Shattering, I have heard no word of him.
I can only assume he perished in the Shattering.'
  • You say 'Orcus'
Ravenhill furrows his brow.
Ravenhill says 'Most curious, most curious indeed are the events
which have transpired within the Tower of Despair. I have
corresponded with Tyrax of late, using my ravens as couriers.
From what I gather from these messages, and my divinations, the
Demon Prince died some years ago. His carcass was possessed. I
do not know if he housed the entity himself or some other malignant
spirit.'
Ravenhill run his finger across his chin while scribbling in his
book with his free hand.
  • You say 'Hastur'
Ravenhill yawns.
Ravenhill says 'Ah yes, the Unspeakable. I hope that beast was
banished back to the Pits that Orcus summoned him from.'
  • You say 'Steppinrazer'
Ravenhill nods solemnly.
Ravenhill says 'I had not heard of these SteppinRazers before.
From what I can gather, they are enslaved souls given as a gift by
this entity to the Dread Lord in exchange for servitude. However,
it seems the Dread Lord has managed to keep them in his service with
his newfound powers.
  • You say 'Onyx'
Ravenhill says 'Ah yes, the Onyx Golem. Demonstrated mastery of the
Kabbalistic arts. However, such a creation, when separated from its
master has certain weaknesses. I have theorized a hollow vessel capable
of containing tainted souls may prove harmful to that force which
animates the Golem. Though it was pure conjecture on my part,
a mage named Grimoire managed to prove this theory, as have others
I have spoken with. I did not inquire into the exact nature of the
vessel, but they assure me it can be done.
Ravenhill nods sagely as his gaze returns to the cauldron.
  • You say 'Darkness'
Ravenhill says 'Ah yes, an eternal force. Ever increasing in
power that one is. A needed balance in the world, but not one
you should let catch you unawares.'
  • You say 'eskhatos'
Ravenhill says 'We are fortunate that Eskhatos was averted. It
was not only the will of the Gods that saved us, but the treachery
of the Dread Lord. If Seth had relinquished the power given to him
when the entity called for it, even the Gods could not have forestalled
Eskhatos.
Ravenhill frowns.
Ravenhill says 'But victory has a price. The Shattering has
done great harm. Even my magic has been lessened in these times.
Ravenhill shrugs helplessly.
Ravenhill says 'Ah well, there is little to do but perservere.'
  • You say 'shattering'
Ravenhill shakes his head.
Ravenhill says 'Do not misunderstand me, I feel fortunate that my
life, as well the existence of the Realms, was spared, but these
interruptions into my research are intolerable. Fortunately I have
since devised a Path of study which allows me some degree of movement.
However I am still forced to rely mainly on my ravens, and the occasional
visitor, to carry and receive messages.
  • You say 'covenant'
Ravenhill says 'Many years back, Darkhaven was destroyed by a being,
or beings, known as the Covenant Hebredite. The remnants of their
actions are the Ruins now inhabited by thieves and murderers ruled by
Gravoc. The motives of the Hebredites had always been a mystery. Now
it seems, or at least I theorize, that the Hebredites were the agents
of whatever entity caused the Shattering. They destroyed Darkhaven to
harvest the souls of its citizens. These souls were then to be used to
free this entity. But the number was greatly insufficient. At this
point, Gravoc began luring scoundrels to the Ruins to harvest their
blood and souls. The Ruins became a giant altar of sacrifice.'
Ravenhill leans forward and speaks quietly to you.
Ravenhill says 'I believe this failed, which is why the entity sought
other agents. The Dread Lord and the Demon Prince. I think that It was
the source of their powers, but I can not verify this.'
Ravenhill leans back a bit.
Ravenhill says 'The Tower and the Fortress, combined with the Ruins,
provided the souls and the blood. In this moment, we were almost
defeated. It is fortunate we survived.'
  • You say 'Maximillian'
Ravenhill snorts derisively.
Ravenhill says 'That wastrel? He is of little consequence.
It is a pity he did not perish in the Shattering.'
